Throwback To George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” Final Performance
Celebrate the Heart of Country, Americana, and Roots Music! Throwback To George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” Final Performance A video of George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” final performance has emerged, and we can’t help but miss the one and only ‘The Possum.’ It was taken on April 6, 2013, of what has become his ultimate concert at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, Tennessee. The show was supposed to be a part of Jones’ grand tour as a way to end his seven-decade career – Playin’ Possum! The Final No Show – which was an all-star tribute concert that was once planned to end on November 22, 2013. It was unfortunate that the Country Music Hall of Fame member didn’t make it through the end of the tour. He didn’t get to see his fellow artists and musicians – including Alan Jackson, Charlie Daniels, Brad Paisley, Eric Church, and so much more – honoring him for being one of the greatest country singers. You can see in the short clip that the 81-year-old George Jones already seems to be struggling with his breath while singing his epic hit, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” When he reached the middle part of the tune, the country legend chose to sit down, finishing the heartbreaking ballad. His wife, Nancy Sepulvado, also revealed that the country music star gave a dire prediction the moment he hopped into the tour bus, telling her, “I just did my last show.” A day later, Jones was reported to enter the hospital in Nashville for a respiratory infection. And nearly two weeks after, Jones was once again sent to the hospital because of fever and irregular blood pressure and stayed there for several more days. Sadly, on April 26, 2013, the country superstar, whose supple Texas voice most of us grew up and enjoyed listening to, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center due to respiratory complications. Born in Saratoga, Texas, into a very poor family, George Jones discovered his love for singing while performing on Beaumont’s streets, mimicking his musical heroes such as Hank Williams. Eventually, Jones got to perform on local radio and landed as a background singer for local stars in the late 1940s. This, later on, led to bigger success and an epic career. You can watch George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” final performance in the video below.
Marty Robbins’ “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky” Is An American Classic
Marty Robbins’ “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky” Is An American Classic Film and TV actor Stan Jones’ 1948 song “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky,” which he wrote himself, became a crossover hit after Vaughn Monroe recorded it a year after. Its newfound popularity encouraged singers from various backgrounds to make their own cover of the song. One that stood out and became a Western music standard was Marty Robbins’ version. Stan Jones’ inspiration to write “Ghost Riders in the Sky” came from a folk tale he heard as a kid. The tale involved ghostly riders chasing cattle across the sky, and this haunting image stuck with him through the years. He eventually became a cowboy and a park ranger in the southwestern area of the US, where he spent most of his time admiring the West’s vast landscapes and living the cowboys’ lifestyle as he heard from the tales when he was little. Though he didn’t have an encounter with the ghostly riders in the sky, he still basked in the lifestyle and beauty of the “West.” It fueled his creativity for Western music imagery, manifested by how vividly he described what it was like to be in the “West.” In Robbins’ rendition of the track, his voice evoked the feeling of fear, wonder, and mystery, giving depth and emotion. It also had that distinct feel of authenticity, as if someone in a bar told you the story about ghost cowboys wrangling up a herd of cattle in the sky. The only difference is they were a hundred percent convinced that the story was real. While it didn’t specifically win any awards, it was still a monumental part of Western Music. Aside from “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky,” Marty Robbins had numerous hits throughout his career, including classics like “El Paso,” “Big Iron,” “Don’t Worry,” and “Devil Woman.” “El Paso” earned him a Grammy Award in 1961. If you’re down to hear some great country classics, Marty Robbins’ songs should be on your list. If you’re into folk tales, then you should definitely go and listen to Marty Robbins’ “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky” in the video below.
Alan Jackson’s Daughter Joins Him On Stage for a Surprise Duet of ‘You’ll Always Be My Baby’
Alan Jackson’s Daughter Joins Him On Stage for a Surprise Duet of ‘You’ll Always Be My Baby’ When Alan Jackson surprised his fans on October 8, 2021, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville by bringing his daughter Ali on stage, the night became more than just another concert—a deeply personal, unforgettable moment. The father-daughter duo performed “You’ll Always Be My Baby,” a song Jackson penned for his daughters’ weddings, turning the emotional ballad into a powerful celebration of family and love. A Song That Hits Close to Home Jackson wrote “You’ll Always Be My Baby” for his eldest daughter Mattie’s wedding in 2017. The song reflects the bittersweet emotions of watching a child grow up, filled with tender memories of skinned knees and climbing trees. It promises that they’ll always be his little girls no matter where life takes them. This heartfelt track became a fan favorite after Jackson recorded it for his 2021 album Where Have You Gone. Another song from the album, “I Do,” was written for his second daughter, Ali, when she married Sam Bradshaw in 2020. These tracks, rooted in Jackson’s personal experiences as a father, add a deeply authentic layer to his musical catalog. The Magic of Their Onstage Performance But the real magic unfolded when Ali joined her father on stage to sing the song he wrote for her sister’s wedding. Confident and poised, Ali took her place beside her father, alternating lines and harmonizing effortlessly yet deeply emotionally. The crowd was moved as father and daughter brought new life to the lyrics: “You’ll always be my baby / Forever in my heart.” As the chorus echoed through the arena, Ali flipped the lyrics, singing to her father, “I’ll always be your baby.” This poignant exchange was more than a simple performance—it was a touching display of the bond between a father and his daughter, enhanced by the power of the music that Jackson had created with his family in mind. Alan Jackson is no stranger to emotional performances, but this moment felt particularly significant. It wasn’t just a song about fatherhood but a testament to the enduring connections that define Jackson’s personal and professional life. Fans weren’t just witnessing a duet; they saw a piece of Jackson’s legacy in action, with his daughter by his side. After the final note, Jackson embraced Ali in a heartfelt hug, followed by a kiss on her forehead—a tender end to an already powerful moment. The performance reminded fans that while Alan Jackson has long been a country music titan, his most important role will always be that of a father. “You’ll Always Be My Baby” isn’t just a song for weddings—it’s a reminder that family and music have always been intertwined in Alan Jackson’s life. And on that October night in Nashville, fans were given a rare glimpse into the heart of a country music legend.
George Strait’s Son Is A Talented Rodeo Cowboy and Songwriter
George Strait’s son, Bubba Strait, is the very definition of the saying, “Like father, like son.” He grew up to be a fan of two things his dad loved the most – team roping and, of course, country music. Not only that, but Bubba also excelled in them. So it isn’t surprising that the country music icon is proud of him. Oh, and he also seems to have inherited his handsome looks from his father. Who is Bubba Strait? Bubba Strait was born as George Harvey Strait Jr. on May 14, 1981. He is the second child and only son of the country music icon with his wife, Norma Strait. He attended university at Texas A&M, where he began his competitive rodeo career. Soon after graduating, he became a team roper of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). And this was something that he and his father bonded over. According to George Strait, it was the greatest feeling to watch his son roping or even just watch him compete just like he did in the 2006 Houston Livestock and Rodeo. He also added that he and Bubba had been lucky to win a couple of buckles together and that for him was the ultimate thing. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Fan Of King George Strait (@fanofkinggeorge) But aside from that, the father and son also share the same passion for songwriting. In fact, Bubba has around 30 song credits off of his father’s albums since 2009. He has worked alongside many of the biggest names in songwriting in the industry, including Dean Dillon. The two co-wrote “Living for the Night” with George Strait for the first single off of George’s hit 2009 album “Twang.” Bubba also collaborated for 2 more songs on the record and even wrote one himself entitled “Arkansas Dave.” And he also performs occasionally on stage with his famous father, although it’s a very rare occurrence. Nevertheless, their performances never fail to ring in applause. View this…
Eddy Arnold and LeAnn Rimes’ Iconic Yodeling Showdown in “Cattle Call”
One of the most unforgettable moments in country music came when Eddy Arnold and a young LeAnn Rimes joined forces for a stunning duet of “Cattle Call.” The collaboration, featured on Rimes’ 1996 debut album Blue, showcased an extraordinary blend of voices from two generations—Arnold, a country music legend at 81 years old, and Rimes, just 13 at the time, already demonstrating the powerful voice that would define her career. Rolling Stone points out that although “Cattle Call” wasn’t released as an official single, it still climbed to No. 18 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, proving just how captivating the duet was. The performance became a fan favorite, mainly due to the flawless yodeling from both artists—a technique not often heard in modern country music. Arnold’s smooth, steady yodel complemented Rimes’ fresh, youthful tone, creating a timeless sound that bridged the gap between classic and contemporary country. What made the duet so special was how Rimes held her own alongside Arnold, whose career had already spanned six decades. Her ability to match Arnold’s masterful yodeling was remarkable, particularly for someone so young. The song’s unique style, which could have seemed outdated in the 90s, felt revitalized through their skillful execution and mutual respect for the music’s heritage. For Eddy Arnold, this duet marked his return to the charts after nearly 20 years, a fitting last hurrah for one of country music’s most iconic figures. His deep connection to “Cattle Call,” which he first made famous in the 1940s and 1950s, made the performance even more poignant. For LeAnn Rimes, it was a defining moment early in her career, showcasing her range and talent, hinting at the superstar she would soon become. The pairing of these two vocalists in “Cattle Call” wasn’t just a passing collaboration—it was a moment of magic where tradition met emerging talent. The result? A yodeling match that stands the test of time.
