In a shocking turn of events, the Loveland community is reeling after the cold-blooded murder of 65-year-old William Canol, who was gunned down during a late-night walk on June 3, 2015. Found bleeding on the sidewalk, Canol was shot at close range with a shotgun, leaving family and friends devastated and searching for answers.
Canol, a beloved father and grandfather, had just begun to embrace retirement after a long career in technology and military service. Known for his humor and warmth, he was a pillar of support for his family. His granddaughter, Sadi, was left in disbelief after receiving the tragic news of his death.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire shortly before Canol was found, and police believe the shooting may have been part of a disturbing pattern of random violence in the area. Just minutes before Canol’s murder, a motorcyclist was also shot at by a suspect in a similar vehicle.
Investigators have pursued over 5,000 leads, interviewed more than 1,000 individuals, and examined 14,000 pickup trucks in connection with the case, yet the investigation went cold for years. A vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s truck was spotted, leading to a break in the case when Christopher Parker was identified as a person of interest.
After a lengthy investigation, Parker was arrested in March 2018, charged with first-degree murder. His trial faced multiple delays due to mental health evaluations, but he ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in June 2023, receiving a 39-year prison sentence.
The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence. Sheriff John Fyen acknowledged the irreparable harm caused by Parker’s actions, emphasizing that while justice has been served, the pain of Canol’s absence will linger.
As the investigation continues into the other unsolved shootings in the area, the legacy of William Canol lives on through the love and memories shared by his family. His granddaughter Sadi remains steadfast, honoring his memory by striving to embody the values he instilled in her. The community now seeks healing and a return to safety in the wake of this tragedy.
