On October 4, 1981, authorities exhumed Oswald’s remains from Rose Hill Cemetery amidst rumors that the body buried there might not be his. The exhumation revealed a cracked concrete vault that had allowed water damage to compromise the coffin, partially exposing Oswald’s remains.

Investigators quickly transported the remains to Baylor Medical Center for examination. Forensic specialists sought to confirm Oswald’s identity through dental records and unique markings. They found that three teeth matched Oswald’s dental records, and a scar on his skull was also visible.
