Michael Jackson’s Pepsi Ad Jacket Sold for $300,000+ 😲 | MJ Forever

A remarkable piece of music history recently changed hands at an auction in London, as Michael Jackson’s iconic Pepsi commercial jacket sold for over $300,000. This striking black and white leather jacket, worn by the King of Pop in a commercial that aired in 1984, drew significant interest from fans and collectors alike, who gathered to bid on a piece of memorabilia connected to the legendary artist.

The auction, hosted by Prop Store, featured more than 200 items linked to various music legends, showcasing a diverse array of collectibles. Among the notable items were a hairpiece worn by Amy Winehouse during the filming of her music video “You Know I’m No Good,” which fetched close to $23,000, and George Michael’s leather and denim jacket from the video “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me,” which sold for $115,000. Despite the high-profile nature of the event, some items, including a Beatles-themed Yellow Submarine jukebox and a guitar belonging to AC/DC’s Angus Young, went unsold.

Michael Jackson’s jacket was anticipated to sell for as much as $488,000, with estimates ranging from $36,000 to $73,000. The jacket holds a special place in Jackson’s legacy, as it was not only featured in the Pepsi commercial but was also seen in various appearances, including the set of his groundbreaking music video “Thriller.” The jacket was originally gifted to Conor Wendell Thompson, who became friendly with Jackson’s cosmetologist father in Orlando, Florida, prior to the commercial’s premiere. Thompson’s auction lot included a Polaroid of him receiving the jacket, a signed photo from the former child actor, and other memorabilia.

Among those who have expressed admiration for Jackson’s legacy is rapper Offset, a three-time Grammy nominee and husband to Cardi B. Offset has honored the King of Pop by donning several recreations of Jackson’s famed costumes, including the iconic “Smooth Criminal” look in his latest music video.

Jackson’s influence on music remains profound, despite his tragic passing in 2009 due to acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication. He left behind a lasting legacy, as evidenced by the success of the Broadway musical “MJ the Musical,” which has grossed over $142.6 million and garnered four Tony Awards. The production continues to run at the Durham Performing Arts Center in North Carolina until October 22nd, illustrating Jackson’s enduring impact on the entertainment industry.

As the auction of Michael Jackson’s Pepsi jacket concludes, it serves as a testament to his timeless influence on music and culture. Fans and collectors alike are left to reflect on the significance of the King of Pop’s contributions to the world, sparking conversations about his lasting legacy.
